Medieval building, first mentioned in 1096. Extended in the 14th century by the addition of 2 side naves, then in the 17th century by the addition of chapels, all the additions were remarkably respectful of the original early Romanesque style.
The bell tower, a medieval tower of the old city wall, was surmounted during Louis-Philippe's reign by an iron belfry and a clock.
The outer wall of the church overlooking the Cours Voltaire is part of the old rampart of the medieval city, and still contains beautiful traces of crenellation and murder.
