In good weather from Easter to All Saints' Day, a morning of pescatourism on the Santa-Maria is above all a moment of sharing with a fisherman who is passionate about the sea and his job.
Thierry Raut, a fisherman boss, will take you off the coast of the Saint-Mandrier peninsula to show you the two phases of his work: setting and hauling in the nets. Even if he mainly fishes with nets, you will also be able to pick up the longline set the night before. Depending on the season, get ready to welcome the different species of Mediterranean fish out of the nets: scorpion fish, conger eels, lobsters, sars, sea bream, soup fish...
In the company of Thierry, you will leave at dawn from the port of Saint-Mandrier for an outing of about four hours at sea. Once back at the port, you will have the opportunity to accompany Thierry and see how the short fish circuit works in the Var.
On the quay, his wife sells the fish. Thus, Thierry only fishes what he needs to live. Not more, because the resource is vital for the small traditional coastal fishing!
