A tireless transcriber of the music of others, Liszt never ceased to promote the music of his masters (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven) and contemporaries throughout his life. It would be impossible to end this recital without a Hungarian Rhapsody, a dazzling piece of virtuosity, ideally combining the sophistication of so-called "learned" music with the popular spirit of Central European Slavonic music.
