Paul Lay's new trio program, "Bach's Groove" - a nod to Miles Davis' famous album Bag's Groove - is a tribute to Bach, whose highly rhythmic writing has inspired many jazz musicians. Revisiting some of the master's familiar pages - the Preludes and Fugues and two luminous chorales, including Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring - and also featuring Oscar Peterson's astonishing Bach Suite, rarely performed in concert, he composes an original score, playing on contrasts according to mood, and giving pride of place to the swing and groove he handles so well.
