VILLA TAMARIS CENTRE D'ART
This villa, built from 1890 by Michel Pacha and restored in 1991, is reminiscent of the Tuscan style with its cubic plan, its pediments decorated with garlands, its large openings and its terraces with balusters.
Perched on the heights of the Tamaris hill, surrounded by umbrella pines, the villa overlooks the bay of Lazaret and the harbour of Toulon. Built at the end of the 19th century by Blaise Jean-Marius Michel, known as Michel Pacha, the house has the proportions of a palace (surface area of 3700 m2) and is similar to the Tuscan style with its cubic plan, its pediments decorated with garlands, its large openings and its terraces with balusters.
Rehabilitated by the municipality of La Seyne-sur-Mer, it opened its doors as an Art Centre in 1995. In December 2003, it was transferred to the Communauté d'Agglomération Toulon Provence Méditerranée. Since 2003, the Villa Tamaris has hosted the annual International Photography Festival "l'Œil en Seyne". Two floors are now devoted exclusively to images, video and photography. The artistic programme will be provided by the Association "Objectif sur Seyne" chaired by Jacqueline Franjou and its artistic committee.
